1. about

My name is Heather Hansen.  I am a visual artist and dancer and this is a place where I share my daily drawings.   I decided to challenge myself in an experiment to connect the dots between my visual and physical forms of expression and discovery.   My main medium of choice is fresco painting.  I love the result, but It is a very complicated and time consuming process so I tend to throw up roadblocks like needing to have the perfect conditions, space, time materials etc.  which hinder my ability to stay engaged with painting daily.   I wanted to create a practice that allows more spontaneity and exploration thru discipline.  One that I could do anywhere with minimal materials.

After my morning yoga practice I have this brief period of time where everything feels light and possible.  I will harness that state of mind directly after dance, to paint and draw for 1/2 hour or so, with simple art supplies and a calendar, to create with whatever I happen to have on hand at that moment.  This is not about presenting polished pieces of art, but about the creative process.  I’m very curious to see how this will evolve over the year and happy to share the little things that inspire me.

This idea was sparked by a dear friend, Maureen Freehill who embarked on a similar challenge with her project “DailyDance”     last year with great success.  Check out her blog, I’ll be sharing there sometimes too.  http://dailydance.net ,http://butopia.us

Also my wonderful friend and art historian Jackie Honsig-Erlenburg has joined me for the challenge with her daily blog highlighting her favorite artists through history and their stories.  Check her out here:  http://dominusvenustas.tumblr.com
